2022.01.26 05:55 TrenboTom [NAFA/LASELLE] Why arts is a viable career path even for people with low SES

There is a stigma around the Asian culture which is arts is only for rich people to enjoy as most artists struggle to make a living out of it. So I will try my best to translate a comment by a great inspiration of mine to shed a different light onto this topic.
To be frank, if you're not aiming for the academics route, arts is one of the best career for average people.
As long as you have enough experience and have constant output, you won't be starving.
If you find a style and a platform that is for you, you can make a decent living out of it. Not just years, but decades, in fact, you can still earn from it even if you're 80 90 years old or got into a car crash and can't even walk on your own.
And if you're lucky enough to be trendy, money printer goes brrrr.
At this era where information is everywhere, there're very little careers that are independent on their own and able to sustain you even when you're old and can't work as hard.
Some may argue that arts is super competitive and hard work is not the only pre-requisite to be successful.
But what else isn't?
Medicine isn't?
Law isn't?
Science isn't?
CS isn't?
Being a twitch streamer isn't?
Arts cannot be replaced by AI and technological changes. (structural unemployment)
It's very varied and therefore face less competition. (very little close substitutes thus price inelastic in demand)
There's only that many elements on periodic table and that many strong materials. The most efficient algorithms on the market are all patented.
Arts by its nature has infinite possibilities.
Take drawing for example, there's uncountable number of profession linked to it.
Stage design, Clothes design, industrial design, toy design, comics, etc.
Even if you're selling corns, you can literally price $0.20 higher than your competitors just by having a better looking packaging.
Making a living out of arts is not about museums and exhibitions, its about being appealing to the eyes and souls.
Arts requires no qualifications.
There are people who have never went to NAFA and yet still thriving in arts. Employers and sponsors literally don't care about where you come from. They only look at your work.
As long as your work brings attention, businesses would love to have you as their partner.
Van Gogh never went to an art school.
Gauguin was a stockbroker.
Matisse was a court administrator.
Monet's family was into grocery business and although he went to an art school, he learned most of his techniques from his friend.
Well if you say learning arts is expensive, our ancestors who painted jungle buffaloes on the wall of caves 44,000 years ago would be disappointed in you.

2022.01.26 05:55 Ok_Bathroom_7199 can i re-pierce my nostril

i have both nostrils pierced, however, i got them done at two different places and two different times and one was done with a guy (🤮 i know, i shouldn’t have gotten that done) because of this they are not symmetrical and it’s really bothering. is it possible for me to get one side re-pierced? i’m thinking of getting my most recent side done again (it’s other a year old and fully healed). is there anything i need to do before getting someone re-pierced?

2022.01.26 05:55 Atler32 Friday as a whole is better than Sunday.

Sure, you have work/school on Friday while Sunday is fully free (for those that do Mon-Fri). But the whole feel of a Friday is better even though you have to do work/school. But once that's over, you can do whatever for the weekend. Plus whatever you decide to do later that day, you don't have to worry about waking up early. Sunday's just feel like half a day off in a bad way, Friday's feel like half a day off in a great way.

2022.01.26 05:55 potatoc4t Annual goal setting meeting with manager. Advice?

I have my annual goal setting meeting with my manager next month. He’s a nice guy, but not very experienced. Most of my meetings with him end up not going anywhere and he isn’t able to answer many of my questions. I’d really like to make the most of his time and not waste the opportunity, he will be asking me about where I’d like end up and achieve. Any advice on questions I can ask? Or any general advice?

2022.01.26 05:55 WinSad5408 Tooth paste and flushing

I have never noticed this before because my face has always been red, except now since I have stopped alcohol and coffee it has been getting better and better. I am almost at 4 weeks and the last two mornings I woke up with my skin basically looking normal. I have not had this in forever. But while I was brushing my teeth I noticed my cheeks becoming pink. A very light pink....but it stuck around and now I am wondering if tooth paste can cause a flush. It literally happened as I was brushing my teeth. My cheeks did not feel anything so if I was not looking in the mirror I would not notice. But obviously, I need to brush my teeth. But I wonder if there is a tooth paste anyone can recommend if they had reactions to ones before. The one I used that I got reaction from is: aquafresh complete.
