2021.10.23 13:47 Eldudereno Just spending my morning on hold with the US Mint. This music sucks.
Pre-ordered multiple Morgans and Peace dollars. Between now and then I have had to get 2 new debit cards due to fraud. At least they are giving me the chance to change payment methods, but this 2 hours so far on hold is painful. Yesterday I only got a busy signal so today is a bit of improvement. Anyone else spending their morning witht the Mint?

2021.10.23 13:47 aseriesofcatnoises I accidentally went too Tucker's Kobolds with goblins
I accidentally went too Tucker's Kobolds on the party last night. There's a bounty out for the wizard, and goblins have been harassing them on the road. Mostly via "shoot an arrow, move 20-30' into the woods and hide", then the players struggle to beat their +6 stealth. The players are 5th level- paladin, echo knight fighter, wizard, non-moon druid.
Point A: Am I doing stealth wrong? They have 'hide' as a bonus action so my thinking was they can just run into the trees and shrubs and rehide after shooting. They roll their +6 stealth vs whoever can see them's passive perception (10-14). On following turns they can reposition and repeat.
The party decided to take the fight to the goblin cave. They were somewhat roughed up from the previous ambushes, and the wizard got himself seriously injured trying to steal some lizard eggs, but they'd just had a short rest. The cave, they eventually discovered, is riddled with small tunnels hidden in the walls. I put finding them at a "Moderate" DC of 15, but the dim light/darkness makes that a little harder.
The wizard tripped over a tripwire and fell into a pit and almost got eaten by two ghouls and some cr 1/8 mushrooms while goblins took pot shots from their hidden tunnels above. The party cleared out the pit, then searched and found two goblin tunnels. (They also found another tunnel where the ghouls had come from, but declined to explore that).
The players advance. The tunnel leads into an irregularly shaped cave room. The goblins knew they were coming because of all the fighting and talking in the adjacent room. Goblins taunted, took their shots, and scattered. Players advance slowly, goblins retreat into their tunnels. There's like 6 goblins. Four goblins wait nearby, in the secret tunnel, and two of them begin moving through the tunnels to to get behind the party. The players search and roll a 2 and a 9. I say they find some bones the goblins were chewing on, and some goblin graffiti. The paladin saw the goblins disappear into a hole so he sets guard by it. The wizard says he wants to ritual cast Detect Magic.
About a minute later, the two goblins finish circling around and see the wizard doing some sort of spell on his lonesome. They shoot him, then run away. The wizard runs in the opposite direction, towards the other party members. Goblins begin circling around to the opposite side again hoping to get another shot at the rear. Meanwhile, the other four goblins are waiting for an opportunity, but the heavies don't provide one so they wait.
The PCs turn around and slowly advance on where the goblins had just shot the wizard from, but they've already run away. They see nothing. And then the players decide screw this, and leave the caves.
We ended the session shortly after and I got fairly negative feedback. The players felt like the scenario didn't play to their strengths, and they didn't have a lot of options. I think one player thinks I was "cheating" with the goblin move speed, but I did measure the distance, and they decided to ritual cast a spell so the goblins had plenty of time to move. I communicated badly when the player asked about where the goblins had fired from, and that made him think they were cheaty quantum goblins. In reality they were two equidistant spots and they had already moved away. I hadn't thought about their specific spots beyond "they can get in range while the wizard is ritual casting and the others are doing their things, then run away" so in my distraction "i dunno" came out. Woops.
Anyway, I expected the players to use readied actions to return fire on the goblins, but the paladin said he didn't think that would work, and he wasn't a ranged character anyway. They also didn't use the druid's familiar to scout, but someone said they were concerned the familiar would just die, or scouting would be boring. They also had one cast of Invisibility left, but they didn't use that. They didn't want to split the party, and in the previous session someone tried to use invisibility in combat to escape and it didn't work well. (Without taking the hide action, the animals can still see your footprints in the grass and smell your stink, and even at disadvantage can probably hit AC 13.)
So yeah. That was kind of a bummer. Some AC 13 HP 7 goblins routed four 5th level characters.
Maybe I should have made the DC to find the hidden tunnels easier? Even so, a roll of a 2 and 9 isn't going to find anything. Maybe no roll at all? My usual go-to is "you can spend more time searching and reroll, maybe with a lower DC." Especially if you know there's something there. One of the players said he didn't think it worked like that, and once you roll you've given it your best. I said I think of it like when I know my cat is somewhere in the bedroom and I can't find him. I don't just give up after six seconds. I check under the bed. Move the dresser and check if he's behind it again. Check behind the desk. On top of the book case. He has to be in there somewhere, even if it takes a couple minutes to find him.
I probably should have reminded them that they can ready an attack, because the goblins do give away their position in the middle of their turn after firing. They rehide as their bonus action afterwards.
Or maybe just not make a goblin death cave? That might've been best.
Any advice on any of this welcome.

2021.10.23 13:47 jsunnb More 3DExperience Solidworks Maker Edition Info
I had asked questions about this to the community and it seemed there wasn't a lot information available. I thought I'd share what I learned so far.
-3DExperience is the same as the connected version -the maker Edition includes the 3DExperience solidworks which installs in your PC, 3DCreator in browser CAD (similar to OnShape), and 3DShaper in browser (looks similar to blender) -Files made in solidworks are NOT compatible with 3DCreator and vise versa. To use them in the other they would have to be imported as something like a stp file. -add ons are not supported in 3DExperience solidworks, so things like Photoview aren't available. -the solidworks is the pro version and includes visualize pro, so you can still render that way. -the water mark isn't something you see in the drawing, it shows in the tree so you know it's a 3DExperience file -once a file is opened (or maybe just saved, not sure) in 3DExperience, it is converted and no longer compatible with normal solidworks. And it seems to be a one way road.
I think that is all, otherwise, the solidworks install is everything you are used to, even has the toolbox with standard fasteners. I haven't done it yet since my PC is 8 years old and I'm concerned about future compatibility, but I'll probably do it once I have a new one... Someday

2021.10.23 13:47 CynicallyRational Switch from VSCode to vim
I've been using the vim plugin on VSCode and have got quite familiar with the key bindings and have really come to appreciate vim. I finally see why people prefer vim over other editors. I'm now planning to make a complete switch and move to vim from vscode. Can you guys suggest some plugins and settings that'll help me make this transition?
